Re-Imagining Route 41

MTJ Roundabout Engineering 

With PennDOT proposing improvements on Rt. 41 that include two roundabouts north of US 1 and an intersection redesign for State Street in Avondale (pa41.com), S.A.V.E. engaged Mark Johnson of MTJ Roundabout Engineering to develop a high-level concept design for the corridor.  This design demonstrates how roundabouts can improve the roadway from Rt. 926 south to Rt. 7, incorporating updates for the southern sections of the Rt. 41 corridor that have higher traffic flow, mixed commercial uses, and planned re-development opportunities. The MTJ design incorporates modern roundabouts to improve safety, reduce congestion, and promote good access to businesses, while reducing costs and impacts. Mark is a leading roundabout expert who co-authored the 2010 Federal Highway Administration Roundabout Design Guide.
